EMT Training

GLC-EMS-Edu (1)
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Course

This course is designed for individuals 18 years of age and older interested in becoming EMTs. Emphasis is placed on the development of knowledge and skills needed to provide basic life saving care. In addition, the student will be given the opportunity to use their skills in the ambulance and clinical setting. The course is 233 hours and runs for approximately four months.

Through advanced training in medical emergencies, our EMT students learn to adapt the correct procedures and timely measures to provide outstanding care to all patients in emergency situations. Our classes teach the fundamentals of patient assessment and treatment. The standard of practice of an EMT is in accordance with the most current Michigan Department of Health & Human Services guidelines.

Our course enables students to demonstrate skills in conducting careful patient examinations by training them to recognize signs and symptoms of an illness or injury. Our students learn to successfully work with other medical professionals in pre-hospital care. Knowledge of the latest medical tools and practices are woven into our EMT education program to ensure that students become efficient in quality and professional care.

Specific topics include advanced care in cardiopulmonary resuscitation, the use of automated external defibrillators, breathing and airway control, body immobilization, and bone fractures. These courses focus on vital instruction in transporting patients, bleeding and shock, soft tissue injuries, respiratory conditions, cardiovascular emergencies, trauma, spinal and head injuries, and other related subjects. Our students are also trained in ambulance operations and other special operations such as reacting to disasters.
